If you’re reading this post then I guess you are engaged with or interested in social media. You might not think so because your don’t have a Twitter Account or a Linkedin account or Youtube Channel but you are. So how important are social media names.
Don’t wait until you ‘get it’ to sign up for the key social media accounts, because your
name (if you are your brand) or your company name, will have gone. Taken by someone else. In the case of Youtube, which I use a great deal now, I wasn’t fast enough or maybe just want’ savvie enough.
As you can see from this screen shot >> another Paul Clegg has the channel but hasn’t visited it in three years. It was registered in Afghanistan.
Imagine how important it would be to you if someone took your name and actually used it. Incidentally, my YouTube Channel is paulclegginsight so all is not lost but I no longer have a consistent brand. Same thing happened at Facebook and had to settle for paulrclegg (r for Raymond my middle name – uugh!!)
If it’s not too late, grab your name real estate, because this social media stuff isn’t about to go away.
And while you are at it … 2011 will see a massive explosion of people ‘meeting on the net’ with all sorts addresses. Someone will want to connect with you on Twitter, whereas the next person will want to connect with you on Facebook.
You are likely to want a portal where all of your main addresses sit. I have been using
paulclegg.tel so that people can choose how they want to connect on social media.
However, I do like the new about.me/paulclegg site because of its creative possibilities. Check out some of the really creative sites on the directory. Brilliant.
Whatever you choose to do, you will notice that once again, I’ve grabbed my social media real estate with my personal brand, just in case that other Clegg character, posing as me, has any strange ideas.
